This article from Diari Ara, a Catalan or Spanish newspaper, is titled “Quan l’assetjament escolar no s’acaba quan surts de l’escola”, which means “When school bullying doesn’t end when you leave school”. I think it’s one of the most interesting articles I’ve read about bullying, because it focuses on how the effects can last for years.
The article includes real testimonies from people who were bullied as children or teenagers, and now, even as adults, they still feel the consequences. Some talk about anxiety, low confidence, or difficulties in trusting others. One woman explains how she still avoids social situations because of what happened to her in school.
What impacted me the most is that many of these people say that teachers didn’t believe them, or didn’t help enough. That’s annoying. It shows how important it is to act early and seriously when bullying happens, not just try to “minimize it” or treat it like something all kids go through.
As a psychology student, this article reminded me of the importance of early intervention and also of the concept of trauma. Bullying is not just a bad experience, it can become something traumatic if the victim doesn’t get help. We sometimes forget that emotional wounds can last even longer than physical ones.
