A lot of the times that we talk about bullying, we talk about the victims. So for this post, I wanted to look at the bullies. I chose this article from the extra readings list on Moodle, titled ‘Why Do Bullies Bully. Motives for Bullying’ . The article was very clear on the main motivations, as it organised each motive as a subtitle, with an explanation and examples underneath. According to this article, the main reasons were: dominance, status, resources, revenge, justice, belonging, romance, identity, well-being and entertainment. We see this in class too, but it gets explained a bit differently, so I liked reading this for extra information. To me this article is a good point to start understanding why people bully,so we can figure out how to stop it. Because punishing alone doesn’t solve the problem, but makes it even worse sometimes.

Hi, thank you for posting your blog. Often when we talk about bullying, we mostly discuss the victims perspective. I think it's interesting to ask the question "why do bullies bully?". As you have stated, it comes forward for different reasons. Especially the romanticisation of being a bully should be something we need to stop doing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting Roos! You're right, although I have the feeling that it's mostly tv-series and movies romanticise it, not people in everyday life. I wonder why this is such a thing on tv?
