Hello everyone, today I wanted to share something that I discovered and that I found really interesting. While looking for new strategies to prevent bullying, I came across two mobile applications that offer practical support for both students and adults. I thought it was worth sharing, because sometimes technology can actually help create safer school environments.
The first app is called STOPit. It allows students to report bullying anonymously using their phone. If someone sees or experiences bullying, they can send a message, picture, or video directly to the school administration through the app. The fact that it is anonymous means that students can speak up without fear of being targeted afterwards as many times victims or witnesses stay silent because they are scared of the consequences. Once the school receives the report, they can investigate and intervene more quickly. According to the developers, this tool is already used in thousands of schools in the United States and has helped reduce the number of unreported cases by building trust and safety among students (STOPit Solutions, s.d.).
The second app is called KnowBullying, developed by the U.S. government agency SAMHSA. This app is not made for students to report bullying, but it is very useful for parents, teachers, and caregivers. It includes daily tips, conversation starters, and guidance on how to recognize the signs of bullying in children. Sometimes, adults don’t know how to start these difficult conversations, and this app gives them tools to support children emotionally and socially. It helps families build stronger communication, which is one of the most effective forms of prevention (SAMHSA, 2014).
Both apps focus on prevention and early intervention, which are key in stopping bullying before it becomes a bigger problem. What I found most powerful is the fact that STOPit lets students speak up without exposing their identity. In many schools, fear of being labeled as a snitch stops people from acting. This app breaks that barrier and makes it easier for students to protect themselves and others.
Thinking back to my own school years, I honestly believe that if apps like this had existed, some situations could have been avoided or solved sooner. There were moments where people clearly needed help but didn’t say anything, and neither did those around them. Being able to report something without showing your name could have made a big difference. I think just knowing that you have that option already gives you more courage. So overall, I believe that when used wisely, technology can be an ally in creating safer and more supportive school environments.

Thanks for sharing this information. As you said, it's sad that we're discovering right now all these solutions when it may be already too late for us right now. But I hope the future generations have more oportunities to speak their voices. I found the anonymous alerts a great option to call for help. Sometimes victims remain in silence because they're too scared of the consequences and this is a fantastic way out for them...
